Iron005: BLIND LEGION (Pre-Lost Breed) “The Lost Tapes” CD 12.5 euros Finally gathered the collection of studio recordings by New York 80’s underground heroes BLIND LEGION! Remastered and packed with liner notes from Hugh Yerburgh, plus some rare photos, this CD sees the light of day for the first time, for a band that deserved this collection for a long time. Also known as the band who later evolved into the Doom Rock warriors LOST BREED known for recording two legendary albums in Hellhound Records, “THE” house of Doom in the early 90’s! Blind Legion belong to the first wave of NEW YORK SPEED METAL bands being heavilly influenced by the NWOBHM like, for example, Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax were at that time. At last, on the streets! Testify the energy!! BLIND LEGION: IT CAME FROM SUBURBIA… That this CD even exists amazes me. A CD chronicling the musical history of a band whose sole output totalled one 7" single and several demo tapes traded in the heavy metal underground of the mid-eighties. That interest exists and the good folks of BLOOD AND IRON have compiled and released it continues to blow me away. As a former member of BLIND LEGION I pen these liner notes with a mixture of pride and embarrassment. These are truly sonic baby pictures! The world is a far different place from when five teenagers huddled around Marshall amps in suburban upstate New York basements, and for every cringeworthy note or painful lyric, there are a dozen warm memories. A brief glimpse of youth and all it's raw potential. BLIND LEGION began life as LEGION in November 1983 (in 1985 to avoid confusion the name was changed to BLIND LEGION). Growing up in the provincial suburbs of Albany, New York the band existed from it's conception on a trickle of imported NWOBHM records and fanzines, the local scene being dominated by limp hard rock cover bands. Rejecting the status quo BLIND LEGION embraced the DIY spirit. The "Nice Guys Finish Last"/"Used To Be Blind" single was bankrolled by a Battle Of The Bands victory purse and upon it's release received a gushing review in METAL FORCES. Worldwide interest from the HM underground grew as a result. From 1984-1987 the band played frequently, though never venturing far from home, headlining clubs as well as landing opening slots with Canada's ANVIL and proto-doom merchants, TROUBLE. Demos were periodically recorded and sent to metal fanzines and record companies, oftentimes ending up in the hands of collectors involved with Europe's thriving tape trading scene. In February 1987 BLIND LEGION played it's last show. Eric, Vinny and John formed LOST BREED upon relocating to Los Angeles in the fall of '87. I moved to Hollywood in November 0f '87 forming LIGHTNING NATION in '89, and Gary, ultimately, moved west joining LOST BREED in '88, though quitting before the band's classic HELLHOUND/NOISE RECORDS releases. Currently Eric lives in upstate New York having returned in 2003 after 15 years in Los Angeles. BLACK JACK BLADES and CARDIAC NOOSE are just two of his numerous projects. John lives in New Jersey traveling frequently to Albany as he's a pivotal member of CARDIAC NOOSE. Vinny still lives in Los Angeles occasionally breaking out his trusty Rickenbacker 4001 bass for gigs with THE BOB LEE in UPSTART. Gary resides in Las Vegas. I'm based in San Francisco and sling my beloved Stratocasters in INFERNO OF JOY. As the masters of these recordings have long since been lost, the source material is literally from those once traded cassette tapes! The "Nice Guys" single is direct from the vinyl! In this era of sterile cut and paste Pro- Tools recordings it's almost refreshing in it's primitiveness. We hope that you, the listener, dig these sonic blasts from a distant and obscure past. A past defined by desperation and boredom, basements and garages, half kegs and nickelbags, Gibsons and Fenders, MOTORHEAD, BLACK SABBATH and all the NWOBHM had to offer culturally deprived suburban teens. All songs were remastered, also included as bonus, one compilation track and five live songs. Comes in exclusive new artwork (6 page booklet with photos and lyrics), limited to 500 copies only! LIFE BEYOND are Maryland Doom/Rock underground legends, besides the band stopped for a while, their legacy maintains among fans of Heavy Rock and Doom Metal.
